Help Your Clients Deal with Rejection and Persevere

Help Your Clients Deal with Rejection and Persevere with Their Goals

Overcoming Rejection

If you help your clients achieve their goals and improve their lives, there will be times where they'll deal with rejection. And for many, that's where they'll give up completely or move onto somewhere, but you can help them persevere and stay the course with their goals.

Listen to the quick article on dealing with rejection below and keep reading for tips on working with your clients.

Dealing with Rejection - Acceptance is Key

We learn at an early age that we don’t get everything we want. In other words, we have had to deal with rejection since then. This makes you think that people accept rejection easily. The exact opposite is usually true.

People start to develop an invisible shield against rejection. They may show anger or resentment to the people who are serving up the rejection. But, in many cases, it can show who is resilient and who is likely to continue until they get what they want.

No one likes to hear negative comments about themselves. People take it personally. However, knowing the reason for rejection can help change your direction. You can correct the aspects that made people reject you in the first place.

This won’t work with everything. For instance, if a person you are attracted to does not return the favor, it may be difficult or impossible to turn this around. Then again, there are numerous stories of people who persevered even when they were rejected time and again, and won the love of their lives.

Another instance where you may face rejection is during a job interview. Many candidates will pass this off as incompetence on the part of the interviewer, and there are certainly cases where this is true. But, you should always try to evaluate the reasons why the interviewer did not choose you. You’d be surprised at how few people even ask for the reasons. Interviewers won’t typically volunteer this information. Many will feel you don’t care if you don’t ask.

In many cases, rejection is not personal. You may not have the necessary skills when seeking a job, or you may not have enough experience, etc. In other cases, it may be somewhat personal, but it may be in your best interest to get rejected. For instance, if you don’t have an aggressive personality, do you want to pursue a career that requires one? If you are in sales, you need to have this driving personality to succeed.

Use rejection to your benefit. People who accept rejection and don’t give up are usually the ones who eventually get that acceptance. Sometimes, the very fact that you are persevering is what turns the tables from rejection to acceptance. Whose to say that next opportunity is not the one that will accept you? You won’t know unless you continue on your quest.

Notes from Alice: How to Work with Your Clients

Most people feel emotional, to varying degrees, upon being rejected, but it's important to look at the situation for what it is:

  • In many cases, it has nothing to do with them as an individual. Help your client understand that people have preferences, there are things going on in their own lives and it's usually not personal.
  • In some cases, it might be because your client is not a good fit. Where appropriate, encourage your client to seek constructive feedback, so that they can take rejection as an opportunity to improve, rather than a negative experience.
  • Life is often a numbers game and that's where perseverance comes in. Often we have to hear no several times before we get to a yes. Encourage your clients to dust themselves off, use the constructive feedback to improve and get back to work again.

And the best part of applying these strategies is the more your clients can do this, the easier the habit becomes. Soon, they'll be looking forward to those No's, so they can get to the Yes's faster.

How to Make Success a Habit

How to Make Success a Habit

Make Success a Habit

Once you experience success you will be able to look back and realize that you achieve all success pretty much the same way. You set a goal, follow through on the tasks needed to be done for achieving results, keep an open mind, learn from others, track your successes and learn from failure. It’s the same thing, over and over again. And it works.

If you want to create a pattern of success in your life, you can start now by learning the secret that successful people know. Successful people are only special because they are doers and follow through. They are not smarter than others; in fact it is entirely possible you are smarter on paper than they are. You just don’t follow through.

#1: Become a Goal Setting Expert

Start at the top and learn how to craft the best goals for yourself. Know that the goal is something that can be accomplished and know that the goal is measurable before you finish writing it. Most of all, make sure it’s a goal that you really want to achieve.

#2: Schedule Everything

People who achieve are doers. If you want to get something done, schedule it no matter how silly it might seem to you. If you put it in a schedule at a particular time, and not just on a generic “to do” list, it will be more likely that you get it done.

For instance, if you have set a goal to write a 80,000 word novel by a certain date, then you should know how many pages you need to get done each week and which days you can work on it, which times, hours, and how long it takes you to write a page. Successful writers write; they don’t wait for inspiration to strike. They schedule it, and do it. The same can be said for anything you want to achieve. You don’t wait until you want to do it; you do it on schedule.

#3: Automate the Mundane

There are a lot of things that need to be done but that can escalate easily into “busy work” which doesn’t get you closer to a goal. Bookkeeping for instance is something that can be accomplished today, with the right software, almost automatically. You can schedule payments to happen automatically; you can also use software that enters everything for you in the ledger. Freeing up time to focus on your scheduled activities that must be done to achieve the goal is a more productive use of time.

#4: Get Outside Expert Help

To be a success doesn’t mean you have to do everything yourself. You’re not on your own. The best scientists, professors, doctors, lawyers, and CEOs have assistants who help them look great. You too can hire outside help and contractors to help you do the tasks needed to reach your goals. Other than doing exercise for you and thing you must do physically for yourself, there isn’t much you can’t outsource today.

#5: Stop Reinventing the Wheel

In most cases, someone has already done it before you. Someone has already worked out the kinks and devised a plan of action that will work for you too with hardly any tweaks. Learn from other people’s mistakes and realize that you can gain valuable information from what others are already doing.

#6: Never Stop Learning

They say it takes ten thousand hours of reading about a topic to become an expert on any subject. Keep this in mind as you look toward your future and set your goals. If you want to be an expert, you’ll need to start today building up those ten thousand hours. Even if you know nothing about a topic today, you can be an expert in just ten thousand hours.

#7: Know Your Core Values

As you set goals to create a pattern of success, it's imperative that you know what your core values are in terms of family, personal, financial and your physical life. Everyone has different areas they need to work on more than others – you need to know what your areas are to set realistic goals that you want to meet.

#8: Track, Assess, Repeat

Nothing is ever done without the paperwork, as they say. Well, that includes creating a pattern of success. Only by setting goals, then tracking and assessing the results of the goals, and then repeating what works will you create a pattern of success.

Creating a pattern of success requires knowledge of goal setting, and goal achieving, and an in-depth knowledge of yourself. Starting today you can gain that knowledge and create a real pattern of success in your life.

Information Overload – The Power of Too Much Information

Information Overload – The Power of Too Much Information Building a Business

Information Overload

Information is everywhere. U.S. Assistant Attorney, Louis Freeh once said:

“Collecting intelligence information is like drinking water out of a fire hydrant.”

While you’re not likely collecting intelligence information, that’s what information overload is like…it's like drinking water from a fire hydrant. Much of it will spill out and be missed. The same can be said about information overload with your business.

Here are a few effects of information overload:

* Feeling Too Much Stress – One of the main symptoms of information overload is to feel stress. Some people say it feels like their brain is being so bombarded by information that as information goes in one side, it’s coming out the other. Stress keeps you from being focused and makes you worry that you don't have enough information to move forward in your business.

* Lack of Confidence – When there is so much contrary information available, it’s hard for people to choose the right course of action. For example, you might see numerous reports that email marketing is dead and that you should focus on social media only…but then other people are telling you that you should focus on email marketing first. How do you know what information is right and what is wrong, and how do you proceed? The lack of confidence can cause you from making any choices or feel unsure about the choices you're making with your business.

* Improper Information Filtering – When too much information is transmitted, the person receiving it often shuts off in a way. Normally the filtering process categorizes information as important or not important, but when there is too much there is often improper filtering called twigging. This essentially means that everything is general and all information is the same. To grow your business, you need to understand which information is crucial to you and what you can leave by the wayside. If you find yourself filtering it all out, you might be suffering from information overload.

* Taking on Too Much Too Fast – Sometimes information overload can make people feel as if they can multitask everything and do more than they can. But the truth is, as shown in study after study, humans aren’t designed for multitasking. If you're looking for new information to grow your business, focus on one strategy at a time. Don't read all the blogs or buy all the products…only digest what you need and leave the rest by the wayside.

In the end, how you consume and process information is up to you. Having a good idea about you want to put focus in your business  will help you make good information consumption choices. Just because people are talking about Facebook Chatbots or Shopify stores, it doesn't mean that information is relevant to you.

The Power of Positive Thinking and Your Business

The Power of Positive Thinking
and Your Business

We all know the phrase “power of positive thinking,” but have you ever thought about how it plays out in the success of your business?

It's HUGE and the more you can shift your mind to think positively, the more success you will find.

We all make mistakes and sometimes things just go wrong. Some people let it get them down. Successful business owners will say a mistake is not such a big deal and they'll figure out how to deal with it.

It's true that some people get mad at our mistakes and that can be upsetting. Customers get irate and we can let the upset us or we can look at those angry people and realize that anger is their issue and not ours. Most of our customers are kind and understanding people who will roll through those blips with us…and those are the customers we want anyway. The angry ones can move along and project on someone else, as far as I'm concerned.

I've always been of the mind that EVERY  PROBLEM HAS A SOLUTION and we can get through anything.

Anytime you can encounter something difficult in your business, don't get upset because things are going to happen. Instead, realize that it's a temporary setback and figure out how you can work around it.

For example, what do you do if product isn't going to be ready for launch?

Reevaluate and adjust your plan, so you can keep your launch date and release a viable product. Perhaps, you'll do some live training instead of writing or recording everything ahead of time. Perhaps, you'll drip feed some content. There are ALWAYS ways to figure things out.

Never tell yourself or anyone that you're having BAD DAY.

There are 24 hours in a day…it can't all be bad. I've definitely had challenging days and in the middle of it all, I might be a bit frazzled, but when you ask me at the end of the day how it was, I'll probably say it was pretty decent…because all the challenging stuff is behind me and in the midst of it all, some pretty awesome things happened.

Because every day is filled with things I can appreciate. Whether it's a beautiful sunset, the mountain view as I drive in traffic over the bridge, my 16 year old who texts me to say he loves me or my friend who sends me a really funny joke that makes me laugh so hard, I cry. Every day has these little things that add up.

So what about when you're about to try something new and you get worried you'll totally screw it up?

We've all been there, but that kind of thinking is pure self-sabotage. If you say that to yourself, you'll probably hold back in your efforts or you won't do it all. In other words, you predict your failure with your thinking.

You don't have to tell yourself you'll hit it out of the park. Not at all, but you can. All you HAVE to do is tell yourself that you'll give it your all and whatever happens happens. Because at the end of your pretty darned good day, if you screw it up, you're going to learn from it. Then on the next pretty darned good day, you can dust yourself off and do even better with the experience and knowledge you gained the day before.

I'll leave you with one final thought. When you find yourself thinking or saying something something negative, practice reframing it positively.

Recently, a friend was telling me about growing up in a family with 3 brothers. He told me that his parents weren't expecting a baby and he was a “mistake”.

I said, “You weren't a mistake. You were a surprise.”

So from here on in, look out for those surprises. They're often blessings in disguise.

How to Cash in on the Journal Craze – Part 3

How to Cash in on the Journal Craze - Part 3
Selling and Marketing Your Journals

4 Gorgeous Printable Journals

If you missed part 1 of this tutorial, you can find it here. It will show you what kinds of journals you can make.

Then move onto part 2 about how to make your journals.

Now let’s talk about how to sell your journals…

When it comes to selling your journals it’s just like selling anything else. Choose your audience, get to know them, create a journal that solves a problem, and then market it to that specific person. Selling easy to create journals for big profit is a lot simpler than you thought because you already likely have a built-in audience.

Ideas: Where to Sell the Journals, You Create

Once you’ve decided how you’ll have your journals created and printed you can take some time to consider where you’ll sell the journals that you create. That’s super easy too. Because you probably already have a good audience for them.

In Your Facebook Group – If you have a Facebook Group for almost any topic that is a good place to sell your journals. Let’s say you have a Facebook Group that is about email marketing. You could create a journal that helps people to stick to their email marketing goals, have a challenge and offer the journal as a companion offering for the challenge. Hint: You can sell the journal POD or you can sell it in a PDF file and let them print it themselves.

On Your Website – You can sell any type of product on your website whether it’s digital or physical. You just need to connect the technology if you’re using Print on Demand. Many POD services can do that with plugins and by grabbing the code to put the shopping cart on your site.

At Live Events – Do you ever go to live events? If they allow you to set up a table you call sell your journals there just like you would any other book. If you host live events, including your journal in the ticket price, is a great way to get people using your journals. Be sure to get them to take selfies with it.

For Workshops – Do you offer workshops for your clients? If so journals are a perfect companion piece or even an add on sale for the workshop. You can offer everything to add on to the workshop in your check out. You can also offer the journal to the participants of the workshop after they’ve attended to help them keep up the good work.

To Coaching Clients – If you’re a coach, offering journals designed especially for your clients and their needs is that little extra step that will make a huge difference. Even if you send them to Amazon to buy them rather than directly on your site you’re going to make a lot of sales.

On Amazon – You can simply list them on Amazon. Using Create Space you can choose to print them on Amazon. Also Burb.com, and Bookbaby.com, and others have an option to sell on Amazon and other sites and even get them printed to sell in bookstores.

Etsy.com – If you make your journals yourself you can sell them on Etsy.com as well. For this to work you’ll need to get them printed first so you have inventory that you can sell to your customers. On Etsy, you can sell physical and digital products.

The best course of action is to consider selling on every platform that you can. Starting on Amazon is less expensive but using a POD like Ingramcontent.com can give you many other options while also making your journals available on Amazon, other online book retailers, and even enable you to put them on your site.

How to Market Your Journals

Regardless of where you sell your journals, you’ll need to market them. Marketing should cover every aspect of your audience. Market to them where they are using the platforms they like. You can also find new audiences by using advertisements to get their attention.

Email Marketing – Create emails to send to your list about journaling and how it can help them. Teach them as you’re creating the journal about the importance of journaling and how it helps you. Give them examples that make the idea easier for them to grasp and understand.

Social Media Marketing – In social groups online, yours and others if it’s not against the rules of the group, let them know about the journal you made. Tell them how it’s different from other journals and make them want it because it’s designed so incredibly well just for them.

Blogging – On your blog, and as a guest on other blogs with similar audience members, blog about journaling and even the creative process of creating the journal. Blog about how journaling helps you reach goals, make decisions and keep records.

Events – Whether you have an in-person event or an online event it’s always a good time to let people know about your journal. If you remember that you’re simply offering them something they need because it helps them and the design is good they’re going to want it.

Online Ads – Facebook Ads are hot right now. They’re not because they work very well. If you get some great pictures of your journal and can explain who the journal is for, and how much it will help them you can run an advertisement on Facebook.

Magazine Ads – A lot of times we get stuck on trying to market everything online instead of looking at offline possibilities. If you can get published in a magazine your bio box can lead them to your website just as well as a bio box as a guest blogger.

Book Stores – It can be harder to get your journal into mass market bookstores because of the fact you’re self-published but if you can prove that your journals are selling well, and they’re attractive and different you still have a chance. Try locally owned and operated book stores first.

If you create a pitch for your journal that speaks to your audience you’re going to sell them. People have gone back to buying print books more often than they buy digital books so selling them in physical form is an excellent idea along with a digital form that they can print themselves to give more people an opportunity to buy and use your journal.

Creating and selling journals is simple. Once you create one journal you’re going to become addicted to creating them and want to create more. One way to do that is to think about how you want your customers to use their journal.

If it’s a yearly journal then you could technically create a slightly changed one for the next year. If it’s a 30-day journal for challenges then you could create a slightly changed one every 30 days. This gives you many opportunities to extend your market so that your audience will keep buying from you. You should get started.

How to Cash in on the Journal Craze - Part 2
How to Make Your Journals

Profit from Selling Journals

If you missed part 1 of this tutorial, you can find it here. It will show you what kinds of journals you can make.

Now let’s talk about how to make your journals…

Since journals are such hot sellers, it’s important to figure out how to create them so that you can get started making money. Creating your journal is the first step toward making big profits. Don’t worry it’s not hard to do. You can get started using the software you already have or you can use software that is easily accessible online.

Software to Use

You don’t have to go out and buy expensive software to create a beautifully designed journal. You can use what you already have on your computer such Word, Pages (MAC), and MS Publisher. But there are also other options out there.

• Canva.com – This online graphic design software has templates that you can use to create your journal. You can import fonts, images, and use web colors to match your branding to make your journal look like yours.

• Adobe InDesign – This is for people who know something about graphic design. If you are a member of Adobe Creative Cloud you may have access to this software already along with many templates that can help you get started fast on your journal design.

Make My Note Book – This online program lets you design and create your note book according to their standards but using a custom design you can get exactly what you want. They will print it and you can order wholesale if you order enough quantity.

Journals Software Tool – This software works with software you already have on your computer to help you create journals fast. In fact, they claim you can create a many page journal in only 3 minutes using their software set up in many different sizes. You also get training included.

Blurb – This is a great place to create amazing journals and get them listed on bookstore sites like Amazon. You can use their free software called BookWrite or you can use InDesign with their plugin. If you have images you’d like to use instead, you can do that too. Of course, you can also upload your PDF using their platform.

To be clear, if you know how to use any of the software mentioned you can totally design your own book. But, know what format you need it in to upload to the printer you’re going to use. If you’re using any print on demand (POD) solutions check them out thoroughly so you can be sure that the way you’re designing them will translate properly and look great when printed.

Tips for Making Your Journal Attractive

Outside of ensuring that the journal you create is perfect for your audience, you need to make it look attractive. The best way to accomplish that is to remember that less is more. You don’t need much on each page to make your journal. In fact, you can technically have the same exact thing on each page of the journal you create.

• Understand Color – The colors you use are important because they’ll give your audience a certain feeling. Learn about the psychology of color which will help you choose the right colors to help you lead your audience in the direction you want them to go for their journal.

Understand Layout – Know that the size you’re making your journal is correct for your audience and for the POD platform. That way every line shows up looking correct and prints out perfectly. Read the instructions on your choice of POD before even getting started to avoid issues, especially if someone is making your graphics.

Use the Right Images – Don’t cheap out on the images you choose to put into your print journal. First, ensure that you pay for the legal right to use the image commercially, then make sure you use the sizes and resolution required for printing which should be listed on the POD company you chose.

Less is More – Don’t get overly concerned about empty pages. It’s a journal. It needs space to write the information down in. Also, don’t feel as if every single page must have a quote on it or art work on it. The important thing is that the cover, design, and purpose of your journal is clear so that your buyer knows how to use it.

Remember to keep it simple, use what you know, and ensure that your design matches your audience’s needs and wants. You’ll be amazed at how well the right journal can sell to your audience and even bring in new audience members.

Getting Your Journal Printed

This is really the easiest part. After you’ve decided on your design or angle then you’re going to want to get it printed. As mentioned before you should choose your POD company first before creating your journal so that you know how to format it correctly. You’ll also need to know the size each page should be, where and if there is a bleed area, and the sizes of images and how to format them correctly for printing. When you know that information before you design the journal everything will work out a lot better.

When it comes to POD you have a lot of choices today. You can go through Create Space & Amazon, Blurb.com, Cafepress.com, Steubenpress.com, Zazzle.com, and many other options. You can order via a wholesale POD company like Ingramcontent.com, Bookbaby.com or a printer like Vista Print even. Whether you let Amazon print it or you print it, you can still let Amazon sell it. Amazon has an option for any seller of almost anything to sell on Amazon as a Pro seller.

There are many ways you can get your journal printed and start selling. It depends on what type of cover you want, the size of the book, and whether you’re willing to give up some features over ease. For example, printing with Create Space gives you fewer options than if you used a company like Bookbaby.com, or if you just printed it wholesale with a company like Ingramcontent.com which also does POD. But, it makes the entire process smooth since it’s already integrated with Amazon which is the best place to sell these types of journals.

It really is as easy as all this. Simply pick a topic, use the software that works best for you, (ensuring that creates the right type of file for your POD choice) and make it look amazing by choosing images and layouts that go well together and make your audience really want to buy that journal.

How to Cash in on the Journal Craze – Part 1

How to Cash in on the Journal Craze - Part 1
What Kind of Journals Should You Sell?

Sell Journals for Profit

Journals are very useful to anyone who wants to record gratitude, change something about themselves, or learn something new. People in all walks of life and all genders get a lot out of journaling. They learn to be happy, they lose weight, or they get deep insight into something that was troubling them. You can cash in on this by creating and selling your own journals for big profits.

The only thing you need to get started is a new angle or topic that will be in demand from your audience. Remember that while there may be journals out there already, your design isn’t out there yet. Your design might make all the difference for your audience because it will be designed with them in mind and not the mass market. You want to make something that speaks to your audience and gives them a place to dream.

To come up with topics for your journal to sell to others ask yourself the following questions:

Who is Your Audience?

Understanding who your audience is will help you come up with angles for the topic and design of your journal. Perhaps you work with an audience who loves essential oils, you could use that as the basis of your design. Maybe your audience likes to color. You could use that as the basis too and create a coloring book along with matching that with the issues your audience may need a journal for.

What Problems Does Your Audience Have?

Every audience has a problem, and you have the solution. Therefore, starting with their problems, you can come up with journal designs that reflect these issues and speak to the audience in their language about their problems. For example, if your audience has joined your coaching program to help them learn to speak in public the journal can be about that topic, giving quotes, inspiration, and guidance for them to get their talk together. It doesn’t only have to be about writing down whatever you want. It can lead to something.

Which Problems Can Be Solved Through Journaling?

So many problems can be solved with journaling. For example, writer’s block. A good journal with information about curing writer’s block and writing prompts to write directly in the journal could solve their problem. If they’re writing in their journal they don’t have writer’s block because they’re writing. This is what’s amazing about journals. You can create them for literally any topic and any niche.

What Type of Journals Do You Like?

If you happen to be part of your own niche, then you’re set. Look through other journals. Take notes about what you like and don’t like about them. Collect some ideas that you do like so that you can transform them into your own idea that works for your audience. With the right art work, space for writing, and inspiration you’ll be able to create just the right journal for your audience. If you’re not in your own niche try surveying them about journaling to find out what they like.

The great thing about creating journals to sell is that each journal isn’t really that much work. A journal mostly consists of bank space for your customers to write in. The rest is just design, art, and inspiration in the form of quotes, prompts, and images.

How to Get Rid of Your Anxiety-Inducing Mind Clutter

How to Get Rid of Your
Anxiety-Inducing Mind Clutter

What we think becomes our reality and unfortunately, we are often our worst critics. All these stories we tell ourselves become clutter in our minds and keep us from achieving what we want.

I’m Alice Seba from Publish for Prosperity and through working with my clients and customers over the past 16 years, I’ve seen this firsthand many times, but luckily I’ve got some tips to help you get rid of that anxiety-inducing mind clutter.

Here's an Excerpt from Our Minimize to Maximize Training That Addresses This Issue…

Now let’s look at what’s going on in our minds. Earlier in the training, we touched on our love affair with stuff. The more stuff we have, the more responsibility we have and the more our mind is cluttered with the stuff we have to do.

Same with the expectations we’ve allowed society to place on us. That we should be married. That we should have kids. That we should…whatever.

Add to that, we allow our minds to be cluttered with the stories we tell ourselves. Your thoughts take control over you and keep you from achieving what you really want to achieve.

I've always been an overthinker. And even now, I still am…and it has its benefits. It enhances my creativity, allows me to be empathetic to others and keeps me from being too impulsive…which is one of my weaknesses too.

But I've made sure that all these thoughts don’t hold me back from achieving what I want to achieve.

I let all those thoughts come in and then…I let them go.

I see them for what they are.

Sometimes they are insightful thoughts that help me move forward.

Sometimes they are made up stories that have no basis in reality…although in the past I would have believed they did.

Because in reality, I can do anything I want and I can be as successful as I want. It’s only the stories I tell myself or the stories I believe from others that keep me from getting to where I want to be.

Same with you. What stories do you tell yourself?

• That you’re not as smart as other people?
• That you’re not as good looking?
• That you’re not good with money?
• That you’re not very organized?
• That you can’t lose weight?
• That you aren’t cut out to be an entrepreneur?

All those things you tell you become your reality. So stop telling yourself those stories and switch them to positive things instead. And even if you can’t say “I’m good with money” At least tell yourself, “I’m learning to manage money and I’m making improvements every day.”

And of course, not all these positive stories are going to work on their own. Yes, if you tell yourself you’re smart or good looking…over time, you will build that self-confidence. But if you say you’re getting better with money, you better darned well put the work in for it.

Because that’s going to be key here. I’m sharing all kinds of ways to change your mindset and that is a HUGE part of the battle, but you’ve got to do the work. Develop the good habits. Get back on the wagon when you fall off and be ready to keep focused.

How to Recognize, Avoid and Recover from Shiny Object Syndrome

How to Recognize, Avoid and Recover from Shiny Object Syndrome

It happens to all of us. We set a goal…whether it be to start a profitable business, lose weight or save money…and then suddenly something interesting with big promises captures our attention and keeps us from staying focused on our goals. These are shiny objects and they are a killer of productivity and success.

Hey, I’m Alice Seba from Publish for Prosperity and through working with my clients and customers over the past 16 years, I’ve seen this firsthand, but luckily I’ve got some tips to help you avoid those pesky shiny objects.

Here's an Excerpt from Our Minimize to Maximize Training That Addresses This Issue…

This is all about saying no too (which we learned about earlier in the training), but this time it’s usually to yourself.

Shiny Objects are where we lose our focus on our career, business, health or just about any type of goal. We see something that looks like a great idea and we totally veer off in a different direction, usually never following through on what we planned.

For example:

  • You buy training programs that promise you instant riches or quick ways to make more money, even though they aren’t part of your original plan.
  • You get sucked into a new diet product that promises to end your cravings and get you results effortlessly.

Following through often doesn’t happen:

  • Because we are excited about the idea at first, but then it fizzles out.
  • It’s not in line with what our goals are.
  • We overwhelm ourselves with too many ideas and possibilities.
  • We overwhelm ourselves with too much in our schedule because we can’t get everything done.
  • And let’s face it, a lot shiny objects are just plain old lies.

The cure:

  • Set your goals and know where you really want to go. Only do things that are in line with those goals. For example, in my business I see a lot of other business owners get distracted with brand new marketing techniques or entirely different business ideas that completely take their focus away from what they’ve steadily been building.
  • If you seem to get distracted when things seem to be taking longer than you want, set smaller goals and reward yourself for those milestones. Rewards will depend on what you achieved and shouldn’t sabotage your goal (like a big piece of cake after losing 5 pounds), but just nice things you do for yourself. I like to take myself out to lunch, see movies etc.
  • Be more discerning. Never buy on impulse. Do your research and take time to think. Limited time offers are good for the people selling, but not for you because they cause you to make impulsive decisions.
  • Get an accountability partner…and better yet an accountability partner who is skeptical. Discuss your new ideas and potential shiny objects with the before you jump in. Be there for each other and look out for one another’s best interests.
  • Eliminate distractions that bring these shiny objects to you. If you’re on a ton of health lists or follow a bunch of people on social media that are always pulling you this way and that…turn them off.
  • Investing in yourself and improving yourself is a good idea, but realize that when you keep spending money on these shiny objects, you’re making yourself work harder and you’re putting your time freedom out of balance. Invest wisely and you’ll keep growing…but do it willy nilly and you’ll find yourself broke or in debt.
  • The only way to actually achieve your goals is through consistency, hard work and staying on track. It’s not easy to build a business. It’s not easy to get your career to exactly where you want it. There are no shortcuts to losing weight and getting healthy. Sometimes that’s a hard pill to swallow, but it will serve you much better than actual diet pill.

If you screw up:

It is not the end of the world and we all make mistakes. The important thing is to learn from them and course correct to get back on track. This is always key. Be patient, stay consistent and let results come. When you sabotage yourself, recognize it and get back to your plan.
